Meet Susan Lachmann… In Her Own Words!
“I am Artist in Education, meaning I have a solid background in academia and alternative learning environments (early childhood, public schools, adult education programs, universities, creative conflict resolution training, etc.) as well as a diverse background in creative expression (vocal performance, radio broadcast, events production, culinary arts demonstrations, visual artworks, etc.).
Mixed media is my jam. A big fan of using found materials and up-cycling, I believe in the box. And the packing materials. Whatever is easy to deconstruct, readily available, adaptable and economical, I’ll use it.
My favorite expressions are art cards, mini artworks suitable for framing sent as greetings, encouragements, expressions of love and care.
I am fortunate to count John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts, WQED Pittsburgh, Very Special Arts of Virginia, New England Kindergarten Conference and various arts councils in the southeast as clients for educational presentations. Currently, I continue to host and produce Women On Air for NPR member station WETSfm and present monthly in WJHL Daytime TriCities.
Laughing One Studios is a goal realized. The name comes from the translation of my surname, Lachmann, meaning ‘one who laughs.’ It is plural because I produce works in various arenas.
I was born in Philadelphia, later moved with my family to northeast Tennessee as a child. Now residing in Jonesborough, TN with Augusto Fortissimo (cat), I gladly claim Northeast Tennessee as home.”
“Creativity lives in the heart of [Susan Lachmann]. She came to my classroom for a whole week. She helped my Ukrainian students create a song in their own language. She taught the class how to sew pages together to make their own book, and even helped them learn how to knit with their hands. They made an animal mural that covered the classroom wall. The students learned to sing in rhythm and spell with rhythm. Every day was amazing. If you are able to schedule her into your classroom, you are about to experience a new level of joy for your class.”
